Anne Lewis

I’ve loved expressing my creativity all my life. As a teenager, I covered nearly every square inch of a beloved pair of overalls with embroidery. I love to build with wood; I’ve created whimsical painted mailboxes for family and friends; I’ve dreamed up stories and designed gardens; I’ve produced watercolors, mosaics, mobiles, and quilts. But my real love is ceramics, which beckoned me several times and is now my full-time artistic focus and passion.

the Products :

My handmade functional pottery is created from white stoneware, then high-fired to 2300 degrees to ensure vitrification of the clay. Vitrified clay is similar to glass-- strong, dense, and watertight. I mix most of my own glazesso I can manage the chemical ingredients. All the glazes I use are food safe and lead free, and my pottery is microwave and dishwasher safe. My pieces are wheel thrown, most often made from white stoneware. Lidded vessels, and in particular teapots, are delightful challenges that bring out my inner engineer. I love carving and texturing moist clay. The mostly darker glazecolors are inspired by water, earth, and forests, which I find deeply meaningful.
